Cup of Love
Valentine’s Day is around the corner, so I thought it would be fun to create something love themed. This cup of love is perfect as a small gift for Valentine’s Day, but also for Mother’s Day for instance. During this tutorial we’ll use hatching techniques to create the shading.
The color I’ll be using is #211111

Skills Learned:
- Sketching Techniques: You’ll start with a basic sketch, using an oval to outline the top of the cup and adding dimension to create a realistic 3D effect. This step is crucial in establishing the shape and perspective of your cup
- Refining Sketches: You’ll learn to refine your initial sketch by lowering the opacity of your rough layer and sketching a more detailed version on a new layer. This technique helps in cleaning up the design and preparing it for inking
- Inking and Line Work: The fineliner brush will be used to create clean outlines and add intricate details to the illustration. You’ll practice varying the line weight to add depth and dimension, especially around the marshmallows and the cup’s edges
- Hatching and Shading: This tutorial will introduce you to the art of hatching and cross-hatching for shading, teaching you how to create texture and volume
Painterly Boat
We’ll let go of perfectionism and create an expressive and painterly seascape with a boat. It’s a fun and relaxing project and you’ll end up with an amazing and expressive result!
